From my desk here in Wiltshire, I’m watching some very light snow drift past the window and thinking about tackling the ever increasing pile of paperwork on my desk – which sort of feels like an ideal lockdown activity.  If you’re currently in lockdown, I wonder how you’re choosing to use the extra time?  My friend, colleague and former boss, Jonathan Slatter, has been spending a few happy hours sorting out his audio archive and recently shared a little gem with me from the days I worked for him as an assistant/ scriptwriter/ voiceover/ jingle singer.  We worked hard but we also had a lot of fun, and this ad was the result of one of the sessions where we played around in the studio, improvising scripts and seeing what happened!

The Organiser Shop Radio Ad from the early 90s

Listening to this, it strikes me how much of its time the ad was – now, the idea of a shop devoted to selling personal organisers seems rather quaint… and there are probably a fair few people who don’t know what a personal organiser is!  It got me thinking about the work that I’m doing now that is also very much of its time – this strange, unsettled time.  Happily, one of my recent jobs was about helping people share the love on Valentine’s Day – and that’s ALWAYS a joy…

Wherever you are, I hope you’re keeping well (and warm!) and if you have more time than usual on your hands, I trust you find something rather more fulfilling to do than paperwork!

Take care,

Kate.

PS.  Would you believe that as well as that pesky pile of paperwork, my desk also boasts my personal organiser from the 90’s?!  Used on a pretty regular basis for all my ADdresses…

I wonder whether these Filofaxes will catch on…
